Who Can Participate?

Students who will be in the 10th grade at Morse next year and will not be taking their second year of foriegn language are invited to participate in the Academy of Engineering.

Students who participate will take Principles of Engineering as one of their two electives (along with Physical Education) which utilizes the acclaimed Project Lead the Way curriculum. They will get to experience interdisciplinary project based learning connected to Engineering in their cohort classes, English and Math, including units from the groundbreaking ConnectEd curriculum. The rest of their courses, Science and History, will be taken "out of house" which means they will have the time to learn alongside students who are not in the academy.

Morse AOE students will also have the opportunity to participate in special activities such as field trips, guest speaking engagements, after school activities and programs geared toward furthering their understanding of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Last year students had had the opportunity to visit the U.S.S. Midway and theReuben H. Fleet Science Center as well as hear guest speakers from SPAWAR and participate in a SPAWAR sponsored Science Night.

Does this sound like an opportunity you or your student would like to learn more about? If so, email AOE Lead Teacher Kristi Herrington at kherrington@sandi.net or connect with us via the "Contact Us" page on this site!
